Become a Member

Housing and land-use is political.

To meet our goals, we need to organize and work at the political level. That means attending community meetings, writing letters to our elected officials and speaking up as much as possible.

By becoming a dues-paying member of Open New York, you can support our advocacy and ensure you are kept up-to-date on all member actions. We plan on gating our Slack to dues-paying members in the coming months; if you would like to retain full access, we encourage you to become a full member today!

What are expected membership dues?

We aspire to keep membership accessible to all members at a rate of $36 dollars per year. If you have any further questions about our membership program, please email welcome@opennewyork.city for help.

Why should I become a dues-paying member of Open New York?

Dues-paying members are a key indicator of any grassroots organization's health and strength. If you believe in our pro-housing mission, every sign up helps us demonstrate more strength to elected officials and community leaders.

In addition, while we are currently soft-launching our membership program, the following benefits will ultimately be provided to dues-paying members:

  • Access to the Slack system
  • The right to cast a vote in membership elections
  • The right to run for elected positions, including for the Board of Directors
  • The right to start and lead working groups or projects (with the consent of Board or General Membership as necessary)
  • Access to select ONY social events and workshops
  • The right to bring non-members as guests to members-only lectures, discussion groups, and social events
  • Access to members-only mailing lists and publications
  • Access to membership cards
